Our topic this half of the Summer Term is focused on ‘My Summer Art Exhibition’.  We will incorporate PSHE, literacy, community visits and technology to explore what art is, different features of art, and how we as individuals can express our own feelings through the medium of art. As a class we will looking into the different types of mediums that are used to create art.  Following on from this each week we will focus on a different style of art, the artists and why they choose their chosen form of art.  We will be discovering what materials are easier to work with than others.

This term, Admiral Class will be continuing with cycling every Thursday and we will be continuing to build on our fitness levels each week and extending the number of laps that we are able to complete. We will also be learning why we need to wear a helmet and the importance of being safe when using the equipment as well as being aware of other users. We will also be learning what to do if the equipment does not work.

During Literacy, Admiral Class will be completing a phonics lesson each week, linked to sounds and letters at our targeted levels. These sessions will be reinforced by continuing our visit to the school library every Tuesday, where the learners will read independently and as part of a group. We will also be completing writing tasks to support our topic and to improve our writing skills, both letter formation and pencil control. Our literacy sessions will also provide a link to our topic, and we will complete a reflection task each week to continue developing our spoken language skills.

During Maths, we will be continuing to work from the White Rose Scheme. Within this term’s unit, some learners will be learning to understand the denominators of unit fractions and to compare and order unit fractions whilst others will be learning about length and grouping items depending on their size.

Within Science, we will be focussing on chemistry, looking at the features of different materials. We will begin by having a class discussion to gain an understanding of what the class know about different materials. In the upcoming weeks, we will be carrying out experiments to discover what material creates the most friction.

The theme of our PE sessions this half term will be looking towards our Sports Day, practising our sporting activities. We will use the skills learnt in gymnastics, ball skills, and movement to successfully complete all Sports Day activities. Please send a P.E kit in for your young person, including trainers.

We look forward to a fun and busy half term and as always, thank you for your continued support.

Gavin
