Our topic in Peacock Class this half term is Holidays! Our learning will have a Geography focus. We will be finding out about different types of holidays, from trips abroad, ‘staycations’, camping trips, and how even day trips can be a form of holiday.

We will be using the text A Ticket Around the World to find out about various holiday destinations around the world. We will find out all about the weather, the wildlife, the languages, the foods and famous landmarks and some popular activities in different  countries.

In English, we will also read the stories:

The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse - to help us learn about and identify the features of a town vs the  countryside.

Meerkat Mail - to discover some famous landmarks around the world and help us practise writing postcards!

You Can’t Take an Elephant on Holiday! – a funny story with lots of rhyming words.

Journey – A wonderful, wordless picture book giving us the chance to use our imagination and become the storyteller!

In Topic (Geography) we will learn about some of the different features in towns, countryside and at the seaside. We will also use the text The Queen’s Hat to learn about some famous London landmarks and then compare them to some of the world landmarks we discover. In cooking we will be tasting some famous foods from different countries and will work towards preparing some of our favourites.

Our Maths will involve finishing the place value units we started last term, before moving on to learn about length and height. We will compare objects using terms like ‘longer’, ‘taller’ or ‘shorter’ and will begin to use tools to help us measure accurately.

In Science we will learning about plants and thinking about what they need to grow. We will explore some plants and fruits that grow from seeds and some plants that grow from bulbs. Our PSHE topic this half term will be ‘Changing Me’ and we will be learning about changes that happen to our bodies as we grow up from babies, to children, to young adults.

We will be continuing our physical activity of tennis on Monday mornings, and some of the class will be horse riding on Thursday mornings. ICT will be focused on presentation skills in which we will learn about how to create,  format and organise a digital presentation.

We would love to share some real life holiday experiences -if you have any photos from a recent holiday or special day trip which you would be happy share with the class, please do send them in either bookbags or via email!

It’s going to be a fun filled (& hopefully sun filled!) half term!
